A little late,
but Soundwave was off the hook :)
Bands I saw:
It Dies Today: I was in the merch line right next to these guys, almost about to leave the line just to watch them. They played so well, and played a lot of old songs, which I was surprised with. Awesome mosh.
Taking Back Sunday: I had heard from Brisbane they were terrible live, but they played really tight although they didn’t play a single song I knew, bar 1 or 2 maybe. Didn’t play There’s No ‘I’ In Team either, such a let down. Crowd was terrible too.
Eagles Of Death Metal: I only saw them because we wanted a good spot for Alexisonfire but they had a good sound, and even played a song I knew from the radio or something.
Alexisonfire: Absolutely jaw dropping. Lots of energy, awesome vocals and harmonies. George, Dallas and Wade outdid themselves. I loved George’s Canadian shorts too, that was a laugh. I loved the entire set, they played a good range of old and new stuff, and finishing with Young Cardinals was just awesome.
Paramore: Now this was meant to be a highlight of my day but I was exhausted by now so I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I’d like. Nonetheless it was an amazing show. Hayley’s vocals were spot-on, and the stage antics from everyone kept the crowd roaring. There were a few poor song choices, but all Paramore songs are good I suppose haha
All Time Low: Now this was the highlight of my day. Brendan and I had waited at the back of the crowd because we were so tired, we had spent the last hour lying down. Halfway through the set I decided I wanted to get in the mosh, and I did. I went through 3 mosh pits and ended up at the 5th row haha I also ended up crowd surfing to the front, over the barricades to get a quick glance from Alex while he was singing the end of Dear Maria, that was cool. The show itself was good, Jack was a little cocky, and Alex played along with it. Zack’s bass solos were insane, I never thought he’d be that good. I didn’t like the fact that Rian was using triggers for his drums, they sounded empty and was the only technical letdown. Best show of the day though.
The Aquabats: Now we were watching these guys cuz The Almost were after them, and I have to say, despite not liking ska/punk myself, it was an entertaining show. They really got the crowd into the music, and even the security guards (who didn’t really play along). They had good presence and were just funny to watch.
The Almost: This was an inspiring set. Aaron Gillespie is a legend. The songs they played got the crowd jumping and Aaron even jumped into the crowd himself. The songs were so energetic, at one stage I had Brendan on my shoulders haha Oh, and the speech Aaron spoke at the end was heart-felt, and I agree with him 100%.
Four Year Strong: What a ball of fun this show was. Constant jumping, headbanging, singing at the top of your lungs. I enjoyed this show a lot, every song was a good one. They even played Semi-Charmed Life from their Explains It All cover-album. Unfortunately I had to leave early to catch up with Nathan at Escape The Fate. It was a great show though, I think I may have found Brendan a new band to rock out too haha
Escape The Fate: I only caught 2 songs by these guys, Sitations and This War Is Ours, and what 2 songs could I have asked for? Those two haha it was awesome. The mosh was insane! I wish I had’ve been in there. Great vocals live, Craig did a good job covering Ronnie. And the scream off at the end of This War Is Ours between Max and Craig was mad.
A Day To Remember: I could’ve enjoyed this more, but the crowd was terrible. The first mosh that opened up was full of dickheads trying to hit people. The following mosh’s were good, I jumped in 3 of them I think, absolutely commanding them, also getting a dead arm in the process. I had even gotten Grace to jump into an all girl mosh hahah so funny. The songs they played were 50/50 old and new, which was odd. I didn’t know any of their old songs so it was a bit of a let down. Although they played Over My Head, which was sweet. I loved every second of this show though, although I had to jump out early cuz I felt like crap. It turned out to be a good move though, we caught a train on a 7 minute departure.Awesome day!
